The Bakersfield Police Department says a security guard was not arrested after he fired at two suspects following a theft at a central Bakersfield AutoZone.

On January 18th, at 4:18 PM, officers of the Bakersfield Police Department responded to a shooting at the AutoZone Auto Parts business, 1615 Brundage Lane. The investigation revealed that a uniformed, armed security guard employee, contracted to provide security for the business, was attempting to take a photograph of two individuals in a vehicle that were just involved in the theft of merchandise from the business.

While attempting to take the photograph, one of the theft suspects attempted to hit the security guard with their vehicle. The security guard discharged his handgun one time at the vehicle and the suspect vehicle fled the scene.

The suspect vehicle is described as a Black 2018-2020 Toyota Highlander with no front license plate

This is an ongoing investigation. No victims of gunshot injuries have been located. The security guard was found to be properly licensed and is cooperating with the investigation. No arrests have been made.
